Suicide Prevention/Mental Health
Mental Illness
1 in 4 people will experience a mental illness during their lifetime. Stigma is one of the main reasons people do not seek treatment. This session highlights the prevalence of mental illness, provides a general overview of signs and symptoms and the role schools can play in supporting students and families .
Suicide Prevention
Transportation Specialists - This session is specifically catered to bus drivers. I discuss the unique perspectives they have with students. I train them in possible warning signs they may notice in students. We also, discuss how to create a "bus environment" that promotes student and driver well-being (avoiding power struggles, delivering effective commands, increasing compliance).
Food Service Professionals - Cafeteria staff also connect with students on a different level. Many times they notice the student who always eats alone, is the bully, or victim of bullying. Additionally, they may pick up on signs of home struggle (student who pays is suddenly unable to pay, etc.). This session provides participants with a general knowledge of childhood and teen depression, signs and symptoms they may see from their unique perspectives, and most importantly how they can play a role in creating a school culture that promotes safety and emotional well-being.
Administrative and Support Staff - I can work with district and school leadership to create crisis procedures and appropriate follow up of students. Additionally, I can provide training on warning signs and early intervention.
