About Me
Jill Newell Wynn, Ed.S; NCC; NCSC
I began my career as an elementary teacher and later moved to language arts in middle school. While teaching middle school, I was recognized for my innovative teaching and ability to connect with some of the more at-risk students. I realized I wanted to make a bigger impact and began working on my degree in school counseling. While working as a school counselor, I became even more passionate about my career as an educator. I was highlighted as a natural leader, and encouraged to expand my capacity to teach and lead others. I re-enrolled at Mississippi College and began work on my Educational Specialist degree; I also earned a degree in Educational Administration. During that time, I also earned National Board Certification for counseling and school counseling.
My role and experience as I trainer was shaped during my time as a consultant for Pearson Education. I was a sales representative for the Waterford Early Reading Program, covering the states of Mississippi and Alabama. As a consultant, I presented at both national and local conferences; I worked with districts and state agencies to write and acquire state and national grants targeting early literacy instruction.
Other career highlights include my role and leadership with a state Crisis Counseling Team. We presented crisis planning and management strategies to schools, statewide. Additionally, I helped developed training for Seclusion/Restraint practices, and served as an advisor for Crisis Management Group.
I have served as an interim counselor coordinator for Madison County School District's 40+ counselors. During this time, I worked closely with counselors to implement and develop counseling programming that aligned with the ASCA National Counseling Framework. I also worked closely with community agencies and the department of education to develop the district’s suicide prevention policy and staff training.
As Behavior Specialist, I developed the district’s MTSS behavior protocol. I work closely with educators to identify at-risk students and develop research-based interventions to support struggling students. I have also provided trainings on trauma-sensitive schools, classroom management, behavior modification, and consulted with schools on developing school-wide systems of behavior support.
I was also instrumental in bringing Sandy Hook Promise programs to our district. As part of this implementation I helped write and win SAVE grants for 8 schools, helped two schools win awards at the National level, and our district recognized as a national model for Sandy Hook Programs.
